Easter is a Christian celebration that commermorates the ressurection of J.C. The Easter Eggs celebrate the ressurection of Jesus Christ however this association came much later when Roman Catholicism became the dominant religion in Germany in the 15th century. The word Easter in french Paques shares somewhat a similarity to the hebrew word Pessa’h. Pessa’h celebrates the fleeing of the Jews in Egypt and the passage of the Red Sea. The Jewish Easter is celebrated on the full moon in the end of spring on the 14th of Nizan whereas the Christian Easter is celebrated 2 days later. Now your probably wondering what does a bunny have to do with Easter, well since Roman Catholicism became popular in Germany in the 15th century, they worshipped gods and goddesses and one of them the goddess Eostra was the goddess of spring and fertility and her symbol was the bunny and so that became the standard.
